Field Notes

Description:

I really had a hard time figuring out whether this was another red-shouldered hawk or a broad-winged. The blunt, short tail makes me think it's a broad-winged hawk.

Habitat:

During the summer some subspecies are distributed over eastern North America, as far west as British Columbia and Texas; they then migrate south to winter in the neotropics from Mexico down to southern Brazil.

Notes:

Spotted on powerlines over a busy road through residential areas in Kennesaw, GA.
