Description:
Adults grow to about 46cm, deep russet red head, white body and black wings, long thin upcurved beak, long white legs make this a strikingly beautiful bird. A wader that sweeps its beak through shallow water feeding on small insects, crustaceans and plant material the Red-necked Avocet is also known to submerge itself and swim when necessary. Often seen in small and large flocks preferring salt or brackish water. Call is a series of yap sounds and other small calls.
Habitat:
Found throughout much of Australia. These ones found on salt semi-permanent lake in gibber stone country associating with the Shelducks previously posted.

Again not the best photos, but also at the limit of my lens and very flighty. Hope to post clearer ones one day!
