Thanks Joe. Well I learned there's only two Anoplognathini species shared between the Auastralian and New Guinea faunas...so that it likely comes from the Asian Rutelinae...Actually without the material in front of me (only my average digital photos) and nothing to compare to...looks like some leap of faith will be necessary....As you mention, they're too short, the ones I've checked so far...
Scott, I found the answer but you have to search inside it yourself. It's a complete revision of the Anomala in New Guinea and Wallace region. Have a look yourself, most can be ignored as they are too small I guess. Good luck! http://www.google.co.th/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=6&ved=0CEYQFjAF&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.senckenberg.de%2Ffiles%2Fcontent%2Fforschung%2Fpublikationen%2Farthropodsystematics%2Fasp_65_1%2Fasp_65_1_zorn_25-71.pdf&ei=LPRZUtH7GcyTrgftuIHwCA&usg=AFQjCNG0a4bXiFIjOrVJ-XyiZiTp-VyMzw&bvm=bv.53899372,d.bmk
Thanks Joe, that's what I suspect and it is in that size range, but I'd like to see a record from New Guinea before I commit to species level.
Scott, this is the beetle that is eaten here in Thailand. If it is about 25-30mm long then there is a good chance that it's A. grandis
Nice beetle Scott. Your ID looks good.
