Field Notes

Description:

Creeping Bellflower can at times become quite invasive and is notoriously difficult to eradicate once established. As well as seeds, it spreads by rhizomes (roots), which gives it its common name.

Habitat:

This species was introduced from Europe as an ornamental plant. In North America it has spread to all but the most southern states of the U.S. and the three northern Canadian Provinces. Habitats include open woodlands, savannas, thickets, fence rows, edges of yards, roadsides, and waste areas.

Notes:

Spotted near the walking paths at Whirlpool State Park (Niagara Falls, NY)
