Description:

In this uncommon dragonfly, each wing is amber colored at the base and wing tip and has several brown spots. The abdomen has a lateral strip that is white anteriorly and yellow posteriorly.

I only have two spottings of this species (the other one I saw on the same day: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/32640048). I have seen widow skimmers and common whitetails a lot. One day, you'll get your shot!
Good catch, Maria! This individual is a male, as indicated by its coloration and terminal appendages. I'm SO JEALOUS. I've seen one (and only one) Painted Skimmer dragonfly; it perched for a few seconds and flew away before I could shoot a photo. Grrrrr!
