Field Notes

Description:

Biggest tit in its range, roughly sparrow sized and distinctively coloured: black head with bright-white cheeks; bright yellow underparts and olive-grey upperparts. Sexes distinguished by a black ventral line - here male, showing its large black belly band.

Habitat:

Seen in dense canopy on wooded slopes in mediterranean type of forest; at outskirts of villages in Imlil area of Atlas mountain range. These villages are located in protected area of NP J'bel Toubkal (or on borders of this protected area - I did not fully catch the story of the National Park...).

Notes:

Probably the P. m. excelsus subspecies; the one found in northwestern Africa.
