Description:
-- Specific description: This photo is of a female (left) and male (right) mallard.
-- General description: The mallard is a medium-sized (20-26 inch) waterfowl. *Male Description: 1) glossy iridescent dark-green head, 2) yellow bill, *Female and juvenile description: 1) mottled brown, 2) orange-and-brown bills.
Habitat:
* Specific Habitat: I observed these mallards at a public Duck Pond in Huntsville, Alabama.
* General Habitat: Mallards can live in almost any wetland habitat, natural or artificial. Look for them on lakes, ponds, marshes, rivers, and coastal habitats, as well as city and suburban parks and residential backyards.
Notes:
-- I observe mallards year-round at this location.
-- Mallards are “dabbling ducks”—they feed in the water by tipping forward and grazing on underwater plants.
