Thank you all for your help. I knew it was not a Killdeer. I see those often enough to be familiar with them. But many of the sandpipers look entirely too much alike for me to differentiate one from the other.
I usually try to eliminate what it isn't from a list of birds spotted on the ebird lists.
I was kinda leaning toward a sanderling, but was hesitant because the second picture appears to have a hind toe, but looking again its probably just one of the fore toes.
Sanderling. Semipalmated Sandpiper doesn't have the full neck. And not a Killdeer. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Sanderling_In_Mating_Plumage.jpg
Its definitely not a killdeer, but I'm not 100% sure what it is. My guess is a Semipalmated Sandpiper
