Field Notes

Description:

The Karoo chat is a near endemic larger flycatcher from Muscicapidae family (Old World flycatchers). For a flycatcher, it is large, slightly bigger than a sparrow. Bluish-grey in in overall appearance, it sports darker tail and edges of wings and whitish underparts.

Habitat:

Seen in Kunene region of Namibia (northwest), outskirts of settlement in arid open acacia woodland landscape. Very dry (but still magnificent and rich in wildlife) at the moment, following a three-year dry-spell.

Notes:

As mentioned above, this another near-endemic bird from Southern Africa, as its distribution is confined to South-Western arid areas of the region. This was also another lifer for me, but it seems (if our filters work properly) that it is a lifer for our PN.
