Field Notes

Description:

Slender, black coloured bird with one white dot at the gape. Forked tail.

Habitat:

My rooftop terrace. I put out water and food for birds and civet cats...In eight years I only ever seen the Drongo come down to drink water ONCE. Today, I did again.

Notes:

It has a harsh sound but can whistle sweetly...I suppose that is its romantic call!

Thanks, Brian. I have been admiring your butterfly spottings...wonderful shots...an explosion of colour and shapes! I wish I could go out butterfly hunting too...any hunting for that matter. Apart from office I hardly go out these days...so I only get to see my regular birds...however, this one gave me a pleasant surprise by coming down to drink water. Warblers are difficult to ID (at least for me)...but I hope you can photograph it soon...I am sure it is around.Good luck.

Great observations as usual, Sukanya. What a reminder that nature is always changing, evolving and adapting around us. I saw a new warbler species in my backyard but was unable to photograph it but still it was exciting to see.
