Field Notes

Description:

I took this to be a butterfly, but it is actually a diurnal moth, a swallowtail moth of the Family Uraniidae.

Notes:

This photo was taken from quite a distance, with my teleconversion lens. Though I could easily see this large butterfly, the space between us was impassable - I simply couldn't get closer to it for a really good photo.

Oh lucky you. That's near La Selva, isn't it? I think I passed through there in July.
pamsai, we have a property near Horquetas de Sarapiqui - though I don't live there, just visit. This was spotted there.
Beautiful moth and great shot Anne Marie!
wow, great spotting Ann Marie. Looked on the location map and see you spotted it near where I spotted many of my finds in July. Do you mind me asking where actually you are?
Lucky You!! For a long time they fly by, never to settle anywhere near, I have been longing for a closer look. Thank you for sharing, Anne Marie McCaffrey.
