Field Notes

Description:

Born at Bear World near Rexburg, Idaho, this little guy is leucistic not to be confused with albino. Leucistic means the elk has reduced pigmentation. His eyes have no unusual eye coloring.

The elk’s mother is also leucistic and was bred with a regular pure Rocky Mountain elk. Officials say the odds of this little one being born leucistic are about one in a million.
