Field Notes

Description:

Pieridae; Coliadinae; Eurema blanda vallivolans Butler, 1863. When I first saw a Three-spot Grass Yellow, a few years ago, I remember being puzzled by the common name because there are many spots on the wings of this little butterfly and I did not know which three were the ones that gave rise to the name. If you are not sure of which spots to count, a very nice explanation is given on https://butterflycircle.blogspot.com/2015/01/life-history-of-three-spot…

Habitat:

Spotted this afternoon in our backyard.

Notes:

Philippine Lepidoptera mention in the caption under their picture of Eurema blanda vallivolans Butler, 1863 that there is a synonym - Eurema blanda mensia Fruhstorfer 1910.
