Frit Fly or Eye Gnat

For such a pretty and very tiny fly (3mm), the Frit Fly or Eye Gnat can be a pest to both humans and livestock in areas where they become numerous. Because they "frit" from host to host and feed on secretions from eyes, mouth, nose, anus and wounds they are also passive vectors of many bacteria and viruses. They are usually black and yellow with long wings. In the last picture, of the fly trying to right itself, you can see how much longer the wings are than the body. Family Chloropidae.
