Field Notes

Description:

Skittish and fairly large adult salamander with gold-flecked skin.

Habitat:

Found underneath a log in temperate woodlands at High Rock Park.

Notes:

Observed to behave differently than the red-backed phase, although they are the same species.

I found another individual of this species in the park as well, however, on a different day: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/760977164

Very interesting Mauna. Thanks for making me dig a little :-) Great spotting!
Thank you, Neil! I thought it was interesting to read about the behavioral implications of polymorphism.
An interesting spotting, Mauna. Great photos, and thanks for adding the reference. It helped me understand what was meant by "phase".
