Field Notes

Description:

Hesperiidae; Hesperiinae; Cephrenes acalle chrysozona Plötz 1883 (Type locality: Philippines). Wikipedia states "There are seven subspecies within the distribution range that extends from India through Indo-China into the Philippines." This is a female (it matches exactly one of the females displayed in Philippine Lepidoptera's website).

Habitat:

This female Plain Palm Dart was spotted a vegetable plot we had at that time behind the rice mill. It was nectaring on the flowers of Sponge Gourd (Luffa acutangula) locally called Patola. (plant identification - http://www.stuartxchange.org/Patola.html)

Notes:

My spotting immediately before this one showed a male of this subspecies and it was my intention to add the photo shown here to that spotting. However, when I uncovered it in one of my old folders, I thought it might be best to keep it separate for the following reason: This female was spotted 10 weeks earlier than the male and in a different location.
