Hello @sbet. "Serpentes" is the "suborder" for snakes, not really the same thing as a scientific name. The scientific name is a genus name followed by a species name in this form: "Genus species". An example would be Thamnophis sirtalis, which may be what's in this spotting (eastern garter snake).
