Description:

Very common turtle in the United States with an olive to black upper body and lower body of yellow to brown and colorful margins of yellow and red. Visible soft body has a green background and elaborate pattern of yellow and some red.

Habitat:

Slow moving waters

Notes:

When I encounter this turtle or any other such as a box turtle, if roadside safety will permits, I usually stop and place the individual on the side of the road it is facing. Turtles are very exposed to all kinds of dangers on a road of any kind.
