Field Notes

Description:

My student and I were so excited to check our moth's box this morning and see that he (or she?) had emerged! Because of his grayish-colored wings, we named him Smokey. :-) I was able to gently lift the wing and in the last pic you can see the pink and black bands on the abdomen, which helped me with the ID.

Habitat:

reared indoors; larva found on a basil plant in a cultivated desert garden
