That's correct, Kelsey. Common names are, well...common names, and they are ascribed by who knows who. However they are often, as in this case, in widespread use. Scientific names on the other hand are meant to be unique for a species and they are the core of a species suggestion. Yes it's in the family Solanacaceae which also includes tomatoes and potatoes.
