Field Notes

Description:

Hodges 4644. Creamy-white, fluffy thorax with soft black dots, some caramel brown mottling and scribbly, pencil-like lines that look like short cloth fibers on fore wings. Daintily serrated wing tips. Looks like it is wearing tiny black shoes.

Habitat:

Came to porch light in area bordered by deciduous woods and grassy field.

Notes:

This moth's caterpillars have venomous hairs. I handled this moth for picture taking but probably would do so again only after being reassured that it also doesn't cause skin irritation or other negative reactions....I wound up with a large, watery blister which may or may not have been caused by contact with this pretty little moth.
