Field Notes

Description:

A 50 mm long soft bodied sea cucumber with tapering ends. There appeared to be a paler side to the body, possibly the ventral side. The body was covered with small papillae which I assume are the tube feet.

Habitat:

Washed ashore and was found along the high tide mark amongst seaweeds - Westernport, Victoria
It was probably alive and was returned to the ocean.

Notes:

This species is said to frequently extrude its intestines when disturbed and like most other sea cucumbers, the gut regenerates.
