Description:
Wasn't sure what to call this one, because at first I thought it was a slime mold of some kind. After doing some research I've found that as some trees bleed their sap in the spring months, a certain yeast will start to consume the sap and give it a distinctive orange color. The yeast in question, cryptococcus macerans though, doesn't seem to have a common name, so I'm calling it tree sap yeast.
Habitat:
From what I can tell this yeast is very common and proliferates in tree sap in several different types of wood like birch, for example.
