Field Notes

Description:

Quite large and impressive locust, with body length of some 5 to 6 cm - further 1,5 cm to be added to full length when resting (wing tips). Short antennae. This specimen was marbled brown and dark-green; while it occurs in diverse coloring. The key characteristic for IDing was these stripped eyes, and the dorsal orange stripe on pronotum.

Habitat:

Here, observed in the middle of the rural road/pathway through the park, and close to river Krka, in magnificent Krka NP in Croatia. In this highly protected area, Krka river forms a series of waterfalls and lakes; it is surrounded by a magnificent dense broad-leaved forest, and its shallow coastal waters are rich in vegetation.
