Field Notes

Description:

This big beautiful Pierid Butterfly was fluttering about in the grass, obviously very agitated. It let me take pictures but stayed down in the grass, which I thought was odd. When I saw the pictures, there was a red ant clasped onto one of her legs. She must have been asking me for help and I was too unobservant to notice, so I feel badly for leaving :(
Family Pieridae.

Habitat:

Heavy vegetation, km 11.5, Highway between Chiapa de Corzo and San Cristobal de Las Casas, 865 meters.

Notes:

See the reference for pictures of the upper side of the butterfly as well as the larva.
