Description:

Small black and red butterfly

Habitat:

Seen in city centre garden in Liverpool, North West England

Notes:

First seen flying around in yard but then spotted sitting basking on air brick - it sat here for a quite a while - much longer than I've ever seen a butterfly sit before - and didn't fly off when I started taking photos.

You're welcome! and welcome to Project Noah!
Thank you so much - that's exactly what it is (I looked at google image with that name!). It crossed my mind it might be a moth when I couldn't find it in my butterfly field guide! Thanks again!
Looks like Tyria jacobaeae / Cinnabar ..
