Field Notes

Description:

Argiope luzona (Walckenaer, 1841). This is a very young, juvenile female Signature spider. It had already caught and wrapped its prey. So, I am unable to identify the unfortunate small creature. Argiope spiders are known to eat almost anything smaller than themselves and on rare occasions, prey even bigger than themselves can be captured, wrapped and eaten by stages.

Habitat:

Spotted on its web in our front garden.
