Field Notes

Description:

These gorgeous trees have started flowering and we find rows of trees along the side walks. They even beautify the ground around them with the fallen petals forming a pretty yellow carpet, especially enjoyable during a morning walk!

Habitat:

Lowland tropics with a monsoon climate.

Notes:

Senna siamea is a medium-size, evergreen tree growing up to 18 m tall. Bark is light grey in color and become cracked and rough. Leaves are feather-compound with up to 14 pairs of dark-green leaflets with blunt tips.
They flower in two distinct peaks, the major one after the rains lasting into December, a shorter one in May. Fruit ripen towards late February. I'll be updating with pics of pods as well.
