Field Notes

Description:

Very distinctive fish in the area; color: olive brown background with bright blue stripes/markings; caudal/tail fin forked and mostly yellow. Maximum published size is 38 cm/15 inches although most specimens observed in the area so far do not get much bigger than 10 or 11 inches (25-28 cm) and heavier than a pound.

Habitat:

Observed around seaweed & barnacle encrusted rocky outcrops at high tide.

Notes:

Size: 27 cm total length
Caught via hook & line using sea worm as bait
Often observed in small groups or schools (when water is clear enough), sometimes with shiner perch (Cymatogaster aggregata)
