Field Notes

Description:

Approx 11cm in length, males plumage is bright emerald-green with yellow underparts, blue highlights on the wings & upper back & a bright red rump. The female is less vibrant mainly olive and a duller green with blueish black wing tips.

Habitat:

Open grasslands & lightly timbered plains also along water courses

Notes:

This pair were preparing a hollow for breeding outside & next to the great flight aviary at Melbourne zoo.
