Field Notes

Description:

I find these small songbirds in tall grass and reeds foraging for insects. Males have a black mask with a white border and a yellow throat and breast. Females lack the mask and have less yellow.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Billy Frank Jr. Nisqually National Wildlife Refuge in tall grass bordering one of the wetlands.
