Spanish Yellow Wagtail; Lavandera Bueyera
Motacilla flava iberiae
39.6237, -0.253128
Field Notes
Description:
Recently the Yellow Wagtail was split into 2 species, being the Eastern Yellow Wagtail and Western Yellow Wagtail, to which this one belongs. There are some who think this should also be a separate species (Motacilla iberiae) due to the large difference in plumage from other races. Already many subspecies have variations to the Common names such as Grey-headed, Blue-headed and Black-headed in brackets after the name but few authorities have agreed to the name changes at present.
Males in breeding plumage are relatively easy to identify but females, juveniles and those in winter plumage are all very similar.
Habitat:
Coastal marshes.
