Field Notes

Description:

Abbreviated from Illinois wildflowers website: 2- 6' in height, native, unbranched. Central stem is stout, pale green and usually short -pubescent. Prominent central vein along length of leaf, veins radiate out to smooth margins. Oozes a milky sap when stem or leaves are torn. Seedpods are 3 to 4" long and covered with soft prickles and short woolly hairs. (From Illinios Wildflower information site.)
