Field Notes

Description:

Gardenia is an evergreen shrub with very fragrant flowers. Prized by many Southern gardeners. While unrelated, it reminds me a little of magnolia. Smaller and more fragile ... but it has a big, heady aroma, complicated flower, similar feel and texture to the petals.

Notes:

Gardenia is a genus of 142 species of flowering plants in the coffee family, Rubiaceae, native to the tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, southern Asia, Australasia and Oceania.
