Field Notes

Description:

An Eastern Black and White Colobus monkey seen at Lake Naivasha, Kenya. This will likely be the Colobus guereza matschiei sub-species.

The Eastern Black and White Colobus is very similar to the the Western variety but the white fur around the face is shorter and they have a bushy white tip on the tail as seen in the picture.

Ironically the Western variety is found on the Kenyan Coast (East) whereas this type is found more centrally and throughout central regions of Africa but there are a number of sub-species and regional variations.
