Red-shouldered Hawk
Buteo lineatus
25.1375, -80.9359
Field Notes
Habitat:
In the East, they live in bottomland hardwood stands, flooded deciduous swamps, and upland mixed deciduous–conifer forests. They are not exclusively birds of deep forest, though; you’ll find Red-shouldered Hawks in some suburban areas where houses or other buildings are mixed into woodlands.
Notes:
Immature Red-shouldered Hawk (extimus variety from FL), I think. It was smaller than most hawks I've seen. Then I got confused looking at Merlins. If ID is wrong suggestions welcomed.
