Field Notes

Description:

This sunbird, of some 13 cm in length and relatively short curved bill, sports an olive brown mantle, an iridescent blue-green face, neck and breast; whitish belly and yellow vent. Sexes are alike, juvenile more drab olive -yellow bellow, and olive-brown above.

Habitat:

Here observed in the garden of my hotel in central Kindu - a small town in the midst of primary equatorial forest and on banks of lower Congo; and the capital of Maniema province. The Reichenbach's is locally common bird, recorded in coastal areas of west and central Africa, and in riverine forests of central Africa.
