Field Notes

Wingspan ~8cm. Male Clearwing was patrolling the host vine Aristolochia tagala or Dutchman's Pipe for the 45 mins I was watching it. It didn't come to rest at all. It was very territorial. It would chase away other butterflies and when the female came by, it paid special attention to her. There were eggs and caterpillars present on the host plant. Even a double-decker egg. Caterpillar ~5cm. Egg 1.5mm diameter, yellow, ridged/ribbed.

Habitat:

Found on Aristolochia tagala vine. Vine has flowers and green fruit/seed pods at the moment (May) Suburban backyard, Clifton Beach QLD
