Field Notes

Description:

The adult has blue wings and tail, and grey head. Its underparts and neck are buff coloured. The very large bill and legs are bright red. This is a large kingfisher and has a loud call.

Habitat:

Near one of the two large waterbodies close to where I live. There are tall trees here and the bird was perched on one such tree along with Cormorants. There were Paddybirds fishing from the water hyacinth in the water below the tree. For a very long time the bird had its back to me.

Beautiful shot. Just a general comment. I see you live in India "near two large waterholes." I have been in the Amazon jungle for 33+ years. Isn't it a privilege to live in a natural wonderland? Great pictures. I look forward to working my way through them.
