Field Notes

Description:

8 mm long orbweaver. The first photo is the ventral view showing the spider's spinneret, or silk-spinning organ. The only web-building members of the species are the females. Females are 8-10 mm long. They exhibit a bulbous abdomen with a total of ten spines. Males exhibit a fair amount of sexual dimorphism. They tend to be around only half the size of the females. Also, they have fewer spines, a flatter abdomen, and a slightly lighter tone. Although males can produce silk, they mostly use it in the mating ritual, which frequently also proves fatal.

Spider color, its web and info,,,everything is just amazing..Lovely series Karen :)
Outrageous colors for a spider I think!
wow, wonderful!
I Couldn't agree more to the previous positive superlatives! It is extra cool that you found it in a car, I would honestly not mind having an old and broken car in my garden, as long as that spider lives in it! (if I had a garden that is :P )
Wow... This is great Karen... Incredible spotting...
Please add this beauty to Animal Architecture.
Thank you Dhirendra & Arya!
