Description:

Inflated head area is normal first line of defense when hognose is threatened. Will also hiss and make fake striking movements.

Notes:

Found while mowing ... photographed ... moved out of harms way.

The snake wasn't going to harm me, but my lawnmower and I could harm the hognose. :-) Judging by that bulge in the snake's midsection, I'd speculate a toad did not move out of harms way fast enough.
A wonderful spotting. Cool looking snake. I wonder, who moved out of harms way?
