California Common Scorpion
Paruroctonus silvestrii
33.2881, -117.11
Field Notes
Description:
Small yellow and brown scorpion less than 2 cm long (body) with a mottled pattern on the cephalothorax. The 5th image shows the pectines which are sensory organs that are not well understood. The last image shows how this scorpion glows in the black light. The video shows how it moves around. I believe this is Vaejovis sp. but I'm waiting for Bug Guide.
Habitat:
Open field in rural area. It was collected for images then replaced in original location. "Common throughout southern california, often found in riparian zones, but also in chaparral, woodland, and scrub. Fond of moisture as well, can be found in washes." - BugGuide
Notes:
