Field Notes
Description:
Fall armyworm [Spododtera frugiperda (J.E. Smith)] (Insecta: Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) is a devastating pest of maize and more than 80 species that can cause severe damage resulting in high yield loss. The spread of fall armyworm across large regions is facilitated by its high-migratory behavior, by international/local trade and human travel. Regulatory control refers to the role played by multiple government agencies in conjunctions with other regulatory agencies and governments to stop the spread of fall armyworm via inspection, quarantine, and destruction of infested material.
