Thanks Stephanie, I've tried my hand at these guys a few times and yes, your right it's hard to get the lighting right. This is my best result so far, but I wish I had a little more depth of field to get the top of the shell in focus as well.
This is a fantastic photo! I know this type of beetle is not easy to photograph!
I'm guessing it's transparent because of a lack of pigment, which would be handy for when the beetle is hiding behind it's shell it can still see through it to see if the threat has passed.
