Field Notes

Description:

Small fly about 1/2 inch or less in length. This particular species mimics a yellow jacket. It has one pair of clear wings. This one was brown with yellow bands on the abdomen.

Habitat:

Hoverflies can be found throughout the world expect in Antarctica. They are found in and around flowering plants.

Notes:

This guy was found on our playground. There are not too many flowering plants on the playground, but we do have a garden nearby. So cool that it stayed long enough for us to get a picture.
