Field Notes

Description:

Large kingfisher with a straw coloured under-surface. Large coral coloured beak.

Habitat:

This one flew low over a freshwater body where fingerings were being released bu fishermen. It perched on a tall tree at the far end of the lake across from where the fishermen were. I hoped it would dive and catch a bird but there were too many people and it flew away...it had also begun to rain.

Notes:

Halcyon capensis,
Alcedo capensis; (Former names)
