Field Notes

Description:

Cone-like reddish brown flower heads, up to 100cm high. Seeds very freely. Leaves to 1.6m wide, like giant rhubarb leaves. Stems and underside of leaves covered with hooked bristles. Large, can form dense thickets. Height to 4m.

Habitat:

Damp ground near rivers, in woods, damp fields, on cutaway bogs and coastal cliffs. Park

Notes:

Designated as a significant invasive plant in Ireland. Muckross House and Botanical Gardens Dublin
