Field Notes

Description:

Mayflies are typically native to parts of the midwest and canada. Mayflies are part of a group called Paleoptera which is a group of insects that have wings that can’t fold over their abdomen. Finding Mayflies anywhere means that that area is clean and unpolluted, because they can not survive in polluted areas. They hatch/become adults around spring to fall. Mayfly Nymphs are the early stages of a Mayfly, also known as naiads. They range in size anywhere from 3mm to 30mm.

Habitat:

Park River

Notes:

Mayfly Nymphs have a thorax that is split into 3 different parts, with a pair or legs on each. They have up to 7 gills that can be either on their abdomen or legs, depending on the species.
