Field Notes

Description:

A gorgeous looking extremely furry medium sized moth mostly white with grey lines and markins and some tan tufts. Very broad ten coloured antennae. Approximately 35mm long.

Habitat:

Resting on a shop window near eucalyptus forest and under sodium light.

Notes:

Thanks staccyh and Carol. We do have Lasiocampids here - a good thought but this one I know is Anthelidae (an Aussie Noctuoid subgroup) I just haven't got the name yet. Our moth expert Peter Marriott will respond hopefully - this one is on the cover of his Noctuoidea book ... http://lepidoptera.butterflyhouse.com.au/peterm/peterm.html or maybe I will just save up and buy the books.
Beautiful! It reminds me of our Large Tolype Moths here in the Eastern USA. Do you have Tent Caterpillar and Lappet Moths (Family Lasiocampidae) in your country?
