Field Notes

Description:

A medium sized bird (up to 12") that is bright blue on the back wings and top of head. There are white bars on the wings and black bars on the tail. There is also a black collar going across the back of the head and around on the throat. The face is mostly white.

Habitat:

They are found extensively in the eastern US through Texas with some showing up further west. This one was in the back yard of a house in Houston, TX.

Notes:

Beautiful birds with a distinct call, a bane to hunters announcing their presence to all who will listen.
